This year, KAS is
offering a new program, i.e. the Public
Speaking. As public speaking skills are
highly demanded and rewarded in our
days, and as those with better speaking
abilities and skills are more apt to
succeed at work and in life, we decided
to start this program to enhance our
students’ speaking skills and to prepare
them for their future lives and careers.
To complete this program, the students
need to practice public speaking through
every subject they study. Doing this,
they will be confidently able to present
what they know, what they’ve learned,
and what they feel. This program will
include all the students, from the KG to
the middle school, and each age group
will take part in activities that are
most suitable and educational for it.
There is a wide range of activities from
which the students will benefit
according to their competence,
performance, and personal choices and
interests. These activities include
shows, interviews, role plays, dramas,
poetry recitations, rhymes and songs,
choral and echo readings, and many more.
The objective of all these activities is
to help students improve their speaking,
interactive, and social skills; gain
self confidence through regular practice
and experience; learn the techniques of
cooperation, research, writing,
speaking, and speech making; increase
their vocabulary; develop their critical
thinking skills; develop their awareness
and moral sensitivity to global issues;
and become familiar with different
styles of presentation for different
subjects, audiences, and contexts.
In the end of the course, the students
will be evaluated on their skills by
their confidence, clarity, preparation,
knowledge of the subject matter, and
logical coherence. All students will
have their public speaking recorded on
video; in addition, they will be
evaluated as per the evaluation sheet.
They will also be encouraged to discuss
among themselves and to evaluate both
themselves and their peers to see what
their strengths and weaknesses are and
how they can improve their speaking
skills. This will, in turn, help them
practice giving praise and constructive
criticism. They will receive one formal
assessment at the end of the academic
year.
