The
students and staff at the Kuwait American
School meet as a whole school three times a
week for our values based assembly. Each
assembly has a theme. For the 2005 – 2006
academic year, our assembly themes are
Co-operation, Generosity, Joy, Respect,
Tolerance, Freedom, Peace and Love.
Each theme lasts from one month to
six weeks. The Principal leads the first
thematic assembly and then each class, group
of students, students with staff and
individual members of staff take it in turn
to lead and contribute to a whole school
assembly.
Each assembly
begins with the Qoran and National Anthem. This is
followed by a values based song composed either by
staff or children and songs of a traditional, local
and moral nature. A story or play with an important
moral message to tell is shared. All assemblies end
with "quiet reflection time" where everyone is
invited to "close their eyes" and think, to gentle
music, how to put positive morals into practice
during the day.
Two special and
very popular guests often appear in assembly. They
are Mr.Bob and Mr.Owl who are two puppets. Mr.Bob
contributes by sharing the good things seen around
school and Mr.Owl speaks sample words of wisdom.
Special assemblies
are held around once a month and include UN.
International Peace Day, all Religious celebrations,
Girgian, Eid, Science Day, Thanksgiving, National
and Liberation Days, Health Day, Book Day, Family
Day and " Make a Difference Day".
The values based assemblies are part of the many
highlights of the week where we also recognize
success and achievements through certificates,
awards and the sharing of children's work.
